Visa announces the purchase of the company’s first ever non-fungible token for more than $150.000. With this historic venture, the giant payment provider officially enters the world of non-fungible tokens. The NFT token that Visa is buying, is a female CryptoPunk character, and part of a unique set of 3840 pieces.
Although the news of the procurement are just in today, Visa has already made the purchase on August 19th. Moreover, the code of CryptoPunk character they obtained is 7610.
Consequently, it is part of one of what many seem to consider as the original 10.000 CryptoPunks non-fungible tokens. In addition to being one of the 3.840 female tokens that are part of the bunch.
Cuy Sheffield, Head of Crypto at Visa, praises the opportunity that this blockchain technology enables small business especially:
The fact that Visa is buying NFT and enters the token market can only mean that the interest in non-fungible tokens is rising. Up to such extent, that after Visa made the purchase of its first token, additional 90 CryptoPunk NFTs were sold within one hour. This resulted in a whooping $20m sale, further increasing the value of the remaining CryptoPunk tokens.
Yet, this is not the first for CryptoPunks to achieve a multi-million sale. As a matter of fact, in May 2021, a rare collection of nine CryptoPunks sold for around $17m. These nine CryptoPunk tokens are part of the first ever 1,000 CryptoPunk NFTs ever minted. The deal was brokered by Christie’s, which is rather fitting considering the value of the digital assets in question.
