Eric Adams, New York mayor-elect, reveals plans to make crypto a mandatory school subject. This news is part of the ongoing pro-crypto campaign of Mr Adams, with a clear goal to turn New York into a global crypto hub.
Moreover, during a Sunday interview with CNN, the mayor-elect stated his concerns that the young population is not enough familiar with the technology.
In addition, Mr Adams also urged companies in New York to start to accept crypto, i.e. bitcoin payments. As per his words, the city should be a ‘center of innovation, no matter what that innovation is’. Which is another indicator that the idea of incorporating crypto in the curricula in the schools is more realistic than some may want to think.
During the Sunday interview with CNN and their State of Union, the mayor-to-be clearly showed his fondness of the asset. Specifically, he said that crypto is ‘a a new way of paying for goods and services throughout the entire globe’.
Furthermore, during the interview with Bloomberg Radio a few days prior, Eric Adams said that he might follow Miami’s example. Just like the MiamiCoin, the mayor-elect says he is exploring options to create an official New York crypto coin as well.
Naturally, the news about the mayor-elect where he wants to make crypto a mandatory school subject divided the crypto community. While there are those who salute and welcome this idea, a lot of experts see it as a rather complicated endeavor.
Such is the case with Jason Furman, an economist from Harvard. He is just one of the few who believe that schools should stick to teaching the ‘regular’ subject, such as science, math, history, etc.
Whatever the case, it remains for us to see the outcome of this program. And whether the mayor-elect will follow through with this revolutionary idea.
Especially since countries such as El Salvador, are already in the process of building bitcoin schools. Something that seems to inspire many countries worldwide.
