The biggest supermarket stores chain in Croatia, Konzum, incorporates crypto as a payment method.
Starting from December 1st, customers can choose to purchase any of the 12.000 products by using any of the nine available cryptocurrencies.
Moreover, customers can choose between some of the most popular coins. Such as, (BTC), bitcoin cash (BCH), ethereum (ETH), DAI, ripple (XRP), EOS, XLM and two stablecoins, USDC and USDT.
In order to provide the option to pay with crypto, Konzum partnered with Paycek. This is a Croatian payment processor platform that was developed by Electrocoin. A fintech company that is also based in Zagreb, Croatia.
Customers can purchase any of the products with crypto by simply selecting a crypto coin, and afterwards just scanning the designated QR code.
As soon as the transaction is complete, the Paycek platform will send customers a confirmation email, and Konzum will send the invoice.
Due to the fact that cryptocurrencies are highly volatile, Paycek intends to offer customers a temporarily fixed exchange rate.
At the time being, the new crypto payment option at Konzum works only for online orders. However, the supermarket chain has plans to change that in the future.
According to the official statement, Konzum intends to introduce crypto payments in all of its land stores in Croatia.
Uros Kalinic, a member of the Management Board at Konzum, believes that this only solidifies the position of the supermarket chain as number one in the country.
Additionally, the representative states that Konzum is always ahead of the competition when it comes to innovation.
Konzum is the largest supermarket chain in Croatia. With 700+ stores and over 10.000 employees. it serves more than 650.000 customers per day.
Consequently, Konzum not only incorporates crypto, but also further raises the bar for the competition. As such, we would love to see more companies following in Konzum’s footsteps.
